Underwater Pelletizer Parts: Die Plates, Cutter Hubs and Knives
JINFENG makes the parts at the cutting end of an underwater pelletizer: die plates, cutter hubs and complete pelletizing knives. Each part is made to the customer's drawing or existing sample, and worn die plates and cutter hubs can be repaired and reconditioned. JINFENG has made pelletizing components since 1993 and supplies die plates for PP and PE lines rated from 200,000 to 600,000 t/a.

Die Plates
Each die plate is made from the customer's drawing or an existing sample, with the extruder and pelletizer interfaces, polymer and operating conditions evaluated together. Reference plates range from about Φ250 mm to Φ1570 mm, with more than 7,500 die holes on large PE plates.
The hard face is the wear-resistant working area where the knives cut across the die face. JINFENG uses its TiC-NiCr cermet or the hard face material specified by the customer. Thermal and melt-flow simulation checks the heating-channel layout before machining, helping reduce the risk of frozen holes.

Cutter Hubs
A cutter hub is the circular hub or disc that carries the pelletizing knives, connects to the pelletizer shaft and holds the knives against the die face. JINFENG manufactures both flexible and rigid designs from customer drawings or existing samples, including large hubs for 300,000 t/a lines.
A flexible hub uses a connection that allows it to oscillate within a set amplitude under external force. With a rigid hub, the cutter shaft controls the knife-to-die-plate gap precisely. The required design follows the pelletizer and its gap-control arrangement.

Complete Pelletizing Knives
JINFENG supplies complete finished knives with their working areas and mounting features ready for installation. The three working-area material groups are TiC-NiCr cermet, TiC-Fe steel-bonded carbide and tool steel.
As reference values from JINFENG supply experience, TiC-NiCr cermet knives last three months or more on PE and PP, TiC-Fe knives two months or more, and tool-steel knives about ten days or more on high melt-index grades. Knife life depends on polymer, throughput, water quality and knife pressure. Material selection is matched to the drawing and operating information.

Die Plate, Cutter Hub and Knives as a Matched Set
The knife seats, shaft connection and cutter hub flatness affect how evenly the knives cut across the die face. Cutter hub evaluation therefore includes the relationship between the knives and the die plate. Include die plate information with a hub or knife inquiry, together with the relevant drawings, mounting interfaces and knife positions.
A cutter hub can be supplied with a complete set of JINFENG knives. Worn hubs can also be reconditioned at the same time as a die plate repair, checked and returned with a test report, with new knives supplied for the reconditioned hub.
At a 200,000 t/a PP line, a knife shaft seal installed in the wrong position after an overhaul caused knife-to-plate contact and left 50 high spots on the hard face. JINFENG technicians restored the surface on site in about five hours so the line could restart.

- JSW CMP and CIM: 19 reference die plates
- Kobe Steel LCM: 8 reference die plates
- DLRPM: 16 reference die plates
- Basell-licensed platforms: 3 reference die plates
Use the die plate references to identify the equipment model and compare the recorded line capacity, plate dimensions and die-hole arrangement. Send your own drawing, sample and interface data with the inquiry so the existing design can be evaluated for your line.
Equipment brand and model names identify the customer's line only. Trademarks belong to their respective owners.
Repair and Reconditioning
JINFENG repairs die plates of any make. Every repair starts with inspection of the actual plate, including the hard face, die holes, heating channels and remaining thickness. The repair scope can include regrinding, hard face replacement and heating-channel repair.
A repair without hard face replacement usually takes about one month. When the hard face is replaced, allow three to eight months, depending on plate size, material and heating-channel condition. Overseas die plates are shipped to JINFENG in Shenyang for repair and then exported back to the plant. Minor hard face damage at plants in China can sometimes be repaired on site.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you supply complete underwater pelletizers?
No. JINFENG supplies die plates, cutter hubs and complete pelletizing knives for existing underwater pelletizers, and repairs die plates and cutter hubs. Pelletizer shafts and complete rotor assemblies are outside the supply scope.
Can you make parts for a pelletizer from another manufacturer?
Yes. Parts are made from the customer's drawing or an existing sample, together with the pelletizer and line information. JINFENG has supplied die plates for lines built on Coperion ZSK, JSW CMP and CIM, Kobe LCM, DLRPM and Basell-licensed platforms, and repairs die plates of any make.
Can I order a die plate, cutter hub and knives together?
Yes. Cutter hubs can be supplied with complete JINFENG knives as a set, and die plate information is part of every cutter hub evaluation. A worn cutter hub can be reconditioned at the same time as a die plate repair.
Do you sell individual knife blades?
No. JINFENG supplies complete pelletizing knives, not individual blades.
