Die Plates for EVA, POE and EVOH Pelletizing
EVA and POE are pelletized in chilled water and tend to stick, so they need a die plate designed for that duty rather than a standard PP or PE plate. JINFENG designs and manufactures die plates for EVA, POE, and EVOH lines from 8,000 to 200,000 t/a, and has replaced imported die plates that gave poor pellet shape and sticking.
Why Specialty Polymers Need a Different Die Plate
PP and PE die plates normally run in process water at about 40–70 °C. EVA and POE die plates run in chilled water at about 7–15 °C. The die plate therefore has to carry the melt pressure while the cutting face is cooled hard and the melt and heating medium inside it stay hot. That temperature difference creates thermal stress in the plate and makes it harder to keep every die hole open.
EVA and POE are also soft and tacky, so pellets stick to each other and to the die face if the die-hole layout, heating, and cutting conditions are not right. Typical problems with an unsuitable die plate are:
- Pellets sticking together or to the die face
- Irregular pellet shape
- Pellet weight below specification
- Frozen die holes and uneven output across the plate
How JINFENG Designs EVA and POE Die Plates
- Heating layout. Temperature uniformity across the die plate is checked with ANSYS Fluent simulation of the heating medium and melt flow, to reduce frozen holes at the die exit.
- Die-hole layout. Hole count and diameter are set for the grade and throughput; reference EVA and POE plates use 2.6–3.2 mm holes.
- Hard face. The hard face must resist knife wear and cavitation and keep its hardness when hot. JINFENG's own TiC-NiCr cermet keeps its hardness up to about 800 °C and has excellent corrosion resistance.
- Knives and cutter hubs. JINFENG has also developed pelletizer knives and cutter hubs for EVA, POE, and EVOH lines.

Case: High Melt-Index EVA at Beijing Yanshan
Beijing Yanshan produces the high melt-index EVA grade EVA20F20. With an imported die plate, the line had poor pellet shape and material sticking. After changing to a JINFENG EVA-specific die plate, the pellets became flat and round without sticking, the product was dry downstream, and conveying time for the finished pellets was significantly shorter.
JINFENG's reference list also includes an EVA die plate for Beijing Yanshan's 200,000 t/a line: Φ912 × 110 mm with 2,160 holes of 2.6 mm, in production since 2022.
Case: 200,000 t/a EVA at Tianli High-Tech
Tianli High-Tech runs a JINFENG die plate on its 200,000 t/a EVA line built on Basell technology. The plate is Φ1000 × 140 mm with 2,080 holes of 2.6 mm and started production in 2024.
Tailored Die Plates for Difficult Grades
Where a line has a specific problem, JINFENG modifies or designs a die plate for it. In 2025 alone, JINFENG designed tailored die plates for three producers:
- POE, Shandong. A large producer had pellet adhesion and 100-pellet weight below target. After the die plate was modified together with the customer, the adhesion problem was solved and the 100-pellet weight improved significantly.
- High melt-index grades, Qingdao Refining & Chemical. The hard face material was upgraded to suit high melt-index products, and the line has run stably since.
- Wide melt-index range at low throughput, Yanshan Petrochemical. A die plate was tailored to the line's capacity so it can run a wide range of melt indexes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a standard PP or PE die plate be used for EVA or POE?
It may run, but EVA and POE are pelletized in chilled water and are prone to sticking, so a die plate designed for PP or PE often gives poor pellet shape or agglomerates. At Beijing Yanshan, replacing an imported die plate with a JINFENG EVA-specific die plate solved the pellet shape and sticking problems on a high melt-index EVA grade.
Which specialty polymers has JINFENG supplied die plates for?

Can you modify an existing die plate that is causing problems?
Yes. In 2025 JINFENG modified a POE die plate for a large producer in Shandong that had pellet adhesion and low 100-pellet weight. The modification solved the adhesion problem and significantly improved the 100-pellet weight.
